The Hawks’ earlier home court
Illawarra Basketball Stadium is widely known as the Snakepit and has also been called Beaton Park Stadium. Austadiums records it as the Hawks’ home from 1979 until 1998, before the move to the entertainment centre. That earlier chapter is separate from the club’s present large-arena game nights.
Foley Street, not the harbourfront arena
The Snakepit is in Gwynneville on Foley Street. WIN Entertainment Centre is a different Wollongong destination. A Hawks preseason notice mentioning the Snakepit means this community basketball venue, even if you normally follow the club at WIN.
Community basketball and visiting games
The stadium remains associated with Basketball Illawarra. Check the host’s notice for any visiting professional event, including spectator admission and accessible arrangements. Everyday local basketball sessions should not be treated as a standing invitation to watch an NBL team practise.
