Club Warm-up Games and the Blitz
NBL preseason brings together club warm-up games and the league’s Blitz tournament before the regular-season campaign. This page lets you view both, or narrow the fixture to one type of preparation. Every match retains its own date, venue and result. The date range describes the games currently published here; it does not claim that every club starts training, plays its first practice match or completes its preparations on the same day.
Choose the stage that interests you
Club warm-up games can involve NBL opponents or visiting teams from other competitions. The Blitz is a named preseason event with its own schedule and points system. Choosing “Blitz” in the stage filter narrows this list to those tournament games. For standings, the scoring rules and an interactive points example, open the dedicated NBL Blitz page. A normal warm-up result does not automatically earn Blitz points.
Follow one team or a date range
Use the team selector to find your club’s published games, then narrow the dates if you are planning a particular weekend. Upcoming and completed views answer different questions: the first helps you find the next tip-off, while the second puts recent finishes first. The latest-result and next-game cards give quick access to a match centre. Reset the fixture filters if an empty selection is hiding games outside your chosen stage or dates.
What Preseason Results Tell You
Preparation changes the meaning of a score
Preseason gives coaches an opportunity to try combinations, introduce new players and adjust roles. A final margin is still a real result, but it should be read alongside who played and how minutes were distributed. A club may be managing workloads or testing a different rotation. Do not assume that a preseason starter has secured the same role for opening night, or that one result establishes the order of the coming regular-season ladder.
Open the box score to look beyond the headline score. Minutes, field-goal attempts, assists and rebounds can show which players were involved and how they contributed. Missing statistics remain unavailable rather than being treated as zero. Where video is available, it can provide further context for a performance. The video link leads to the match centre; it is not a guarantee that every club practice game has a full replay or highlights package.
A drawn warm-up game can be a genuine result
Not every preseason game must be treated like a regular-season contest. If the official result is level, this page keeps that draw rather than inventing a winner or an overtime period. Read the match report for the arrangements used on that occasion. A drawn result should also not be confused with a tied quarter in the Blitz, where quarter points follow the tournament’s published scoring rules.
Times, Venues and Watching in Australia
Tip-off times use the time zone chosen at the top of the page. Check that setting when following games in Perth, eastern Australia or New Zealand. The venue name identifies where the game is played, and may be different from a club’s usual regular-season arena. Smaller venues, training facilities and regional events can have different entry arrangements. Confirm the official ticket information and venue guidance before travelling.
Preseason viewing arrangements can differ between games. A regular-season broadcast agreement does not by itself confirm a stream for every warm-up fixture. Use the published viewing information in the match centre and follow its official source. If a channel or stream has not been announced, treat it as unknown. The official NBL schedule remains a useful reference for fixture changes and game-centre links.
When preparation is complete, switch to the season dates page for opening night and the regular-season calendar. Preseason results are kept separate from league standings and the regular-season player statistics tables. This helps you compare like with like: a strong warm-up performance can be interesting without being added to a player’s official regular-season scoring average on this site.
NBL Preseason FAQs
Does the preseason list include the Blitz?
Yes. The default list includes both club warm-up games and Blitz fixtures. Use the stage selector to view either group separately. The dedicated Blitz page adds tournament standings and points explanations.
Do preseason wins count on the NBL ladder?
No. These preparation games are separate from the regular-season win–loss record. Blitz points also belong to that preseason event, rather than the league ladder or Ignite Cup standings.
Why is a match shown as a draw?
The official preseason result may be level. We retain that result and do not assume overtime was played. Check the match report if you need the particular arrangements for that game.
Are all warm-up games streamed?
Do not assume so. Coverage varies by fixture. Check the match centre and official team announcement for a confirmed channel or stream, including any access or regional restrictions.
