Planning a Breakers game across the Tasman

The New Zealand Breakers play in the Australian NBL, with home fixtures in New Zealand and away games across Australia. You may also see the sponsor name BNZ Breakers on club tickets and announcements. This page follows that club. It does not combine its fixtures with the separate New Zealand NBL, whose teams and season need their own schedule.

Spark Arena and home games outside Auckland

Auckland's Spark Arena is a key Breakers home venue, but it is not safe to turn every home fixture into an Auckland travel booking. The club's NBL27 Hamilton announcement identifies games at Claudelands Arena. A regional home match is still a Breakers home game; its location simply differs from the main arena.

Use the venue on the match card to choose the city first, then arrange accommodation and transport around that destination. If you are buying tickets for friends, send them the actual game and arena rather than only saying “Breakers at home”. Check the event's basketball seating map and the seller's accessibility arrangements before choosing a section. A ticket for one venue cannot be assumed to transfer to a different home date.

The home-court cards above are an overview, while the official Breakers schedule provides the club's published programme. Check the match again before a flight or a long drive. A preseason appearance, a regional fixture and a regular Spark Arena night may have different event arrangements even when the same team is playing.

Australian time or New Zealand time?

Select Auckland for the local New Zealand clock. Select your Australian city if you are watching from Australia. Both countries have daylight-saving changes, and the timing of those changes is not identical everywhere. Applying a single remembered difference to every fixture can give the wrong hour. The selector converts each date, and the venue-time note helps distinguish your viewing time from the time at the arena.

Before buying international travel, check the calendar date as well as the hour. Put the flight itinerary and the match booking in their own local times, then confirm how your phone will display them after you arrive. A team calendar is useful, but its time-zone settings still matter. Adding the same fixture through several calendars can also create duplicate reminders that look like separate events.

Breakers history: New Zealand's NBL championship era

  1. 2003Breakers founded
  2. 2011First NBL championship
  3. 2013Third consecutive title
  4. 2015Fourth championship

From 2003 to a first title

The Breakers were founded in 2003. The club's heritage-jersey account looks back to 2010–11, the season of its first championship. That first winning group included players such as Kirk Penney, C.J. Bruton, Mika Vukona and Tom Abercrombie. It gives newer supporters a starting point for understanding the names associated with the Breakers' most successful early period.

Four championships in five years

The league profile records championships in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. The first three form a consecutive run; the fourth is a later title, not a fourth straight championship. When a season is written as 2010–11, the trophy year is 2011. Keeping those conventions straight helps when moving between club histories and season-by-season result tables.

Tom Abercrombie's connection across the eras

Abercrombie made his Breakers debut in 2008 and was part of all four championship teams. The club's retirement tribute also records his 2011 Grand Final MVP and 2012 All-NBL First Team recognition. His career connects the first title to the later teams, rather than belonging to one isolated highlight or a single season's scoring list.

Those historical achievements do not identify the current starting five. The season statistics above describe current performances available for the club, while an old championship roster belongs to its own date. A player may have an important Breakers legacy without appearing in today's fixture. Use the historical sources for that legacy and the current match information for availability.

Following the Breakers from Australia

Australian viewers should use the Australian viewing guide even when the game is played in New Zealand. Broadcast access depends on where you watch, not only where the court is. A New Zealand club announcement may describe local television arrangements that do not apply to an Australian account. Check the specific game and service before assuming that a link will play in your region.

The team calendar follows both sides of the Tasman. That makes it suitable for a supporter who wants every Breakers date. An Auckland city calendar is narrower: it follows games physically in Auckland and should not be expected to include Hamilton simply because the Breakers are hosting. Choose the club or the place according to the question you want the reminder to answer.

For results, use Completed and open the game for its available box score and videos. The current season record refers to the league campaign, whereas the four championship years are part of the club's longer history. Neither the travel distance nor a past title establishes how the next fixture will go. Comparing recent performances and opponents is more useful than treating every cross-Tasman trip as the same contest.

New Zealand Breakers fan questions

Are the Breakers in the Australian NBL or NZ NBL?

The Breakers compete in the Australian NBL. The domestic New Zealand NBL is a different competition and is not the schedule shown here.

Does BNZ Breakers mean a different team?

No. BNZ Breakers is the sponsored club name used in current club material. New Zealand Breakers identifies the same team on this site.

Are all Breakers home games in Auckland?

No. Regional home games can take place elsewhere, including the announced Hamilton fixtures. Always use the city and arena on your selected match.

Which time should I use for a Spark Arena visit?

Select Auckland for New Zealand local time. If the page is set to an Australian city, its main tip-off display follows that selected viewing location instead.

When did the Breakers win their championships?

The league lists 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. That includes a three-peat followed by a fourth title two years later.

Can an Australian viewer rely on a New Zealand TV listing?

Not automatically. Check the Australian coverage for that game. Availability and streaming rights can differ between the two countries.
