A Taipans game night in Cairns

Taipans fixtures bring national-league basketball to Far North Queensland, but following the team and finding a game in Cairns are slightly different jobs. The next fixture may be a long way south or across the Tasman. For an evening with the Orange Army, start with Next home game, check Cairns Convention Centre or the actual listed venue, and then open the ticket link. If your holiday dates are fixed, use a date range before choosing an opponent.

The Convention Centre, tickets and getting inside

Cairns Convention Centre is the club's main court. The Taipans' official game-day guide provides the practical details: entry arrangements, permitted items and transport links. It currently directs fans to buy tickets online and says tickets are not sold at the venue. Arrange admission before travelling rather than treating a visit to the box office as a guarantee that you can buy a seat.

The same guide distinguishes the opening of the concourse from access to the court. That distinction matters if you plan to meet friends inside: reaching the building does not necessarily mean you can go straight to your seats. Check the guide for the latest entry times instead of applying a single door-opening rule to every NBL venue. The fixture time above is tip-off.

Use the club's linked transport information when planning how to arrive. Its game-day guide says there is no parking at the Convention Centre itself, so do not assume that a match ticket includes an arena parking space. Check the relevant parking and public transport services before leaving, especially if you expect to head elsewhere after the game.

Choose seats and support before game day

For wheelchair access, companion seating or other assistance, read the Taipans ticketing conditions and contact the ticketing team. Those conditions describe special arrangements for accessible tickets and seat changes. It is much easier to resolve a group's seating requirements in advance than to arrive with tickets in unsuitable sections and hope they can be exchanged.

Bring the details of the actual booking, not only a screenshot of the fixture. A schedule identifies the event; a ticket identifies the holder's admission and seat. Before buying for a family, check the age categories and package inclusions on the seller's page. Keep any access instructions alongside the tickets so the person leading your group has them to hand.

Follow Cairns without copying an eastern-state clock

Select Brisbane in the time-zone menu for Queensland time, including Cairns. During the daylight-saving part of the NBL season, an advertised Sydney time is not the same clock time in Far North Queensland. For an away fixture, keep the page set to the place where you will watch, or use the venue time if you will attend. The date matters as much as the hour for overseas travel.

Cairns Taipans history: a Far North club on the national stage

  1. 1999-2000Inaugural NBL season
  2. 2011First Championship Series
  3. 2014-15Minor premiers and Championship Series appearance

From the inaugural season to the Fearne years

The Taipans entered the NBL in 1999–2000. The club's historical account describes a difficult opening campaign and the effort required to establish a national-league side in Cairns. Aaron Fearne connects several chapters: he was an inaugural player, later an assistant and then head coach. His tenure included the club's breakthrough championship-series appearances in 2011 and 2015.

The 2015 achievement and what it means

Cairns finished on top of the regular-season ladder in 2014–15 and reached the deciding series. A minor premiership is different from winning the championship; describing the Taipans as champions of that season would be incorrect. The league profile provides the club's honours context. Those Finals journeys remain significant even without a championship trophy at the end.

Nathan Jawai, Alex Loughton and Cam Gliddon are among the players highlighted in Cairns' history. Their careers offer different routes into understanding the club: a regional connection, long-term leadership and the successful teams of the Fearne period. These are historical reference points, not a prediction of who will play in the next fixture.

Finding the right generation of Taipans

The official past-rosters archive separates squads by season. It is a better starting point for identifying an old jersey or a player from a remembered game than today's roster. The inaugural squad, the 2011 finalists and the 2015 team are not interchangeable. Keep the season attached when discussing a former player's role or comparing the club's best campaigns.

Watching the next chapter from the stands or home

A Brisbane matchup offers a Queensland opponent, while a meeting with the Breakers can invite a look back at Cairns' championship-series history. Use those connections to pick a game that interests you, then return to the current fixture for the details. A rivalry or a historical final is context, not evidence that the next match will have the same players, importance or outcome.

The season record and completed scores help you follow progress between visits. Open a finished match for the available player figures and videos rather than judging the entire performance from a final margin. For television, use the channels listed against that game and the Australian viewing guide. Buying a ticket, subscribing to a team calendar and obtaining a streaming subscription are separate steps.

Cairns Taipans fan questions

Where is the Taipans' main home court?

Cairns Convention Centre. Read the fixture's arena before booking because special events and preseason appearances can use other locations.

Can I turn up and buy tickets at the Convention Centre?

The official Taipans guide directs fans to purchase online and says tickets are not sold at the venue. Check its current advice before making the trip.

Which time zone should I choose for Cairns?

Select Brisbane for Queensland's AEST. It gives the relevant local clock for Cairns without applying Sydney's summer daylight-saving adjustment.

Did Cairns win the championship in 2015?

No. Cairns won the regular-season minor premiership and reached the championship series. Those achievements should not be labelled an NBL championship.

Why does Aaron Fearne appear in several Taipans eras?

He was part of the inaugural playing group and later coached Cairns. His association spans the club's beginnings and its Finals breakthroughs.

How do I follow the Taipans when they are away?

Choose Away games, check the viewing information and use the team calendar. The Cairns city calendar instead follows basketball by where it is played.
