How the Finals Places Work
The NBL finals race is about where a team can finish after its remaining regular-season games. This page brings the current ladder and the run home together, so you can compare records, opponents and home-court opportunities without moving between ten team schedules. Start with the top-two summary and the teams sitting sixth and seventh. Those positions are useful reference points, but the race can also involve clubs further up or down the table.
Current position is not a secured berth
A club sitting inside the top six today has not necessarily qualified. Its position can change as other teams complete games in hand. The dividing lines here describe the current table, not a mathematical guarantee. We do not turn a favourable record into a “clinched” label or call a team eliminated just because its path looks difficult. Official confirmation and the rules for the relevant season are needed for those claims.
Keep the competition and season clear
The official NBL26 format explainer describes the top two advancing directly to the semi-finals, with positions three to six entering the Play-In. It refers to NBL26. Use current NBL announcements for confirmation of NBL27 arrangements, including series lengths, dates and hosting rights. The Ignite Cup has its own competition structure; a Cup place does not automatically establish a league finals place.
Reading Every Team’s Run Home
Compare games remaining and home court
Open a club’s card to see its remaining regular-season opponents. The home and away counts show where those fixtures are due to be played. Home court may matter to fans planning attendance, but it is not a guaranteed advantage in any particular match. Follow a game to check the venue, local start time and viewing details. If the official fixture changes, reconfirm tickets and travel arrangements against the club or venue announcement.
Games remaining include published regular-season fixtures that have not reached a final result and have not been cancelled. A postponed game can remain on that list while a new date is pending. A game awaiting its final result may also still appear. This is why the list and today’s record should be read together. Do not subtract a guessed season length from GP and assume the result is an official remaining fixture count.
Look at the opponents, not just the count
Two teams with six games remaining can face very different runs home. One may have several meetings with clubs above it, while another has repeated encounters with a nearby rival. The NBL’s own run-home analysis illustrates why opponent-by-opponent context is useful. That article covers an earlier race; the cards above use the current season’s fixtures rather than its historical qualification conclusions.
Games to Watch Near the Top-six Boundary
The seven-day section selects upcoming regular-season games where both clubs are currently ranked fourth to eighth. It is a simple way to find meetings around the top-six boundary. It is not a complete list of every game that could affect finals places. A leader playing a lower-ranked side can still change the race, and a team outside this range may have games in hand. Use the full fixture for the wider picture.
Before comparing rivals, check GP and winning percentage on the league ladder. One extra victory does not necessarily put a team ahead when its opponent has played fewer games. Recent form provides another angle, while the injury report can explain availability questions. Neither form nor injuries create a reliable qualification probability on their own, so this tool presents the evidence without attaching speculative percentages.
NBL Finals Race FAQs
Does this page predict the final ladder?
No. It shows current records and remaining fixtures. It does not simulate results, assign championship odds or turn a team’s present position into a predicted finish.
Why are some games absent from the seven-day section?
That section only includes meetings between teams currently fourth to eighth, within the next seven days. Open each team’s run home to see all of its published remaining regular-season games.
Can a team outside the top six still make the Finals?
Its prospects depend on remaining results and the applicable qualification rules. Being outside the top six today does not itself mean elimination. Check official announcements for confirmed qualification decisions.
Where can I find Finals dates and results?
Visit the Finals centre. Check the season label carefully: previous-season results may be shown while the current Finals fixture is awaiting announcement. Conditional games are not guaranteed to take place.
