Choosing a Sydney Kings game and the right venue

A Kings home game usually brings Sydney Olympic Park to mind, but the club's home fixture can also take supporters beyond Sydney. Check the actual arena before purchasing admission or arranging transport. The next-home card identifies the next game hosted by the Kings; it does not promise that the court is in Sydney. This matters particularly if you are visiting for one weekend and have limited time to travel.

Afterpay Arena and the former Qudos Bank Arena name

The arena's official Kings event page explains that Afterpay Arena was previously named Qudos Bank Arena. The change of name does not mean the team moved to a different building. Older ticket guides and match reports may still use Qudos Bank Arena, so compare the address and event rather than treating the two names as separate venues.

For a Sydney Olympic Park visit, check the venue's current transport, entry and accessibility guidance. Use the basketball seating map attached to your ticket purchase. A map for a concert or another sport may not show the same court arrangement. If you are organising a family outing, read the package's adult and child conditions and any booking charges before comparing it with separate seats.

Canberra dates and other special fixtures

The Kings ticket guide includes home events at AIS Arena in Canberra as well as Afterpay Arena. A Canberra fixture is still a Kings home game, but it requires a different travel plan. Do not infer Sydney from the club name, and do not buy a ticket first and leave the city check until later.

Special-event descriptions can also include double headers or themed nights. Read the particular offer to establish what your ticket includes and when you need to arrive. A second game on the day's programme may have a different start from the Kings tip-off shown here. A season membership, single-game ticket and event package should be compared on their stated inclusions rather than their names alone.

The official NBL club schedule is the match-by-match reference for dates and venues. For a final check before leaving, compare the fixture with the seller's event confirmation. The next-game display here follows the current schedule rather than a promotional headline that may still describe an earlier season-opening night.

Sydney Kings history: the three-peat and later title teams

  1. 2003First championship
  2. 2005Completed the three-peat
  3. 2022Fourth title ended the long wait
  4. 2026Sixth championship

The breakthrough championship generation

The club's Championship Series history follows the breakthrough in 2003 and the titles that followed in 2004 and 2005. Brian Goorjian coached that three-peat era. These were separate deciding series across consecutive seasons, not three games within one championship run.

Later trophies and the complete season labels

Sydney's account of its fourth title records the 2022 championship as the end of a 17-year wait. The league profile lists the subsequent 2023 and 2026 titles as well. That makes six championship years in the official record at this guide's review date: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2022, 2023 and 2026.

Keep the year attached when reading older club articles. An article celebrating a fourth or fifth championship was describing its own moment; it is not necessarily a current total. Likewise, a season called 2025–26 ends with the 2026 trophy year. A banner ceremony in the next campaign celebrates an already completed championship rather than adding another title.

People and eras rather than a single all-time team

Goorjian's early Kings championship period is one useful starting point for understanding the club's identity. Later Finals series belong to different squads and circumstances. Use the club's series history to follow the opponents and the progression of each campaign, then keep those historical accounts separate from the current player statistics. A prominent name in an old report is not confirmation of today's line-up.

For a remembered game, establish whether it was a regular-season meeting, a playoff or a championship decider. The word “final” can refer to the last score as well as a Finals contest, so a completed-match label does not by itself identify the competition stage. The fixture's round and stage provide that extra context.

Rivalry dates, Sydney time and following the Kings

The Illawarra matchup offers a nearby rivalry with a clear choice between a Kings event and a Hawks event in Wollongong. The Kings call it the Freeway Series in their ticket material. Choose the host and the arena before organising a group: a familiar opponent does not make every meeting a Sydney home game. The fixture list is also useful for comparing several opponents when the date matters more than the rivalry.

Select Sydney for local viewing and visits in New South Wales or Canberra. For interstate road games, the selected clock helps you watch from home, while the venue time helps with travel. Summer daylight saving means a Perth or Queensland fixture cannot be converted using one assumption for every round. Your calendar app should use the zone where you want its reminders to appear.

A Kings team calendar includes published home and away matches. The Sydney city fixture is better if your priority is basketball actually played in Sydney. Use the Australian viewing guide for streaming or television access and the channels announced for the particular game. A home ticket offer is not a broadcast offer, and a themed match does not automatically mean free coverage.

Sydney Kings fan questions

Is Afterpay Arena the same building as Qudos Bank Arena?

Yes. The venue's official information confirms the naming change. Older references to Qudos Bank Arena do not necessarily indicate a different location.

Are all Kings home fixtures in Sydney?

No. The home programme includes games outside Sydney, including Canberra dates. Check the arena on the specific fixture and ticket.

What was the Kings' three-peat?

Sydney won the NBL championship in 2003, 2004 and 2005. The term refers to those three consecutive championship seasons.

Why does an older article call Sydney four-time champions?

That article may predate later titles. The official profile at this review lists six championship years, including 2023 and 2026 after the fourth title in 2022.

Does a double-header label change the Kings tip-off?

Read the event programme for the full day's timings. The Kings fixture gives their game time; it should not be treated as the start of every included activity.

Will the Sydney city calendar include Canberra home games?

No. City calendars follow where a game is played. Use the Kings team calendar to include their published fixtures in Canberra and elsewhere.
