NBL arenas & tickets in Melbourne

These venues appear on this city's 2026-27 fixture. Open a match centre for the specific game's ticket and viewing information. A past fixture does not mean another event is on sale.

Choosing a Melbourne NBL game

Melbourne offers two current NBL clubs and more than one venue. Melbourne United and South East Melbourne Phoenix both appear in this city fixture. Start with the date you can attend, then compare the home team, arena and opponent. The arena filter is particularly useful if your travel plans centre on one part of the metropolitan area.

Melbourne Park and the south-east are different trips

John Cain Arena is in the Melbourne Park sporting precinct. United's game-day information links to public transport, parking and conditions of entry. Check your event's entrance and allow time to reach your seat; the ticket's doors information is separate from tip-off.

The Phoenix also use the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South. Their membership FAQ treats travel to the two venues separately. A Melbourne Park route will not get you to the State Basketball Centre. Preseason listings can involve other suburban venues too, so read the full venue name rather than assuming every Melbourne game is central.

Tickets follow the event and venue

United announced AXS ticketing for its John Cain Arena home games from August 2026. That does not make an old ticket link the right purchase route for every club or regional venue. Enter through the match's official information and check the seat or membership entitlement for that particular game.

A city of basketball clubs, suburbs and rivalries

The Victorian history recognised by United places the modern club within a broader basketball landscape. Melbourne's NBL story includes older identities and suburban connections, not just the two names on today's fixture. Historical teams should retain their own names and honours when telling that story.

The Tigers chapter

The Melbourne Tigers association records the Tigers' NBL participation from 1984 to 2014 and titles in 1993, 1997, 2006 and 2008. Andrew Gaze and Lindsay Gaze are central names in that account. United's explanation of its championship banners connects the franchise with the 2014 rebrand. The Tigers' wider basketball association continues to have its own identity, so a junior Tigers fixture is not a United NBL game.

Finding a Throwdown

United versus Phoenix is the current Melbourne matchup known as the Throwdown. For a visitor, it offers a straightforward way to see both clubs in one game. Check the actual home designation and venue before buying; sharing a city does not make the two clubs' ticket allocations interchangeable.

Regional games add another layer. United fixtures in Bendigo are not Melbourne city games, even though United are the home team. A special event in Perth also belongs to its host city. This page keeps metropolitan Melbourne venues together and shows the specific building on every card, rather than treating the club's name as a location.

For a basketball weekend, filter dates first and then decide which part of Melbourne you can comfortably reach. Subscribe to the city calendar to follow both clubs' local appearances; choose a team feed if your interest is one club's entire season. You can return to Completed afterwards for the final score and match centre.
